What is THE OPEN?
THE OPEN is a 4v4 cage-style, street soccer tournament hosted as part of the BGH pop-up in Costa Rica. Fast games, simple rules, and a focus on play.
Whether you’re competing or just coming to watch, you’re part of it.
When does team registration close?
Team Registration Tickets closes once 24 teams have registered.
General Admission Tickets are free but must be "purchased" and available for the entire event.
How does the format work?
4v4
Cage-style play
Short, continuous matches
Group stage followed by knockout rounds
Final schedules and match details will be shared closer to the event.
What is the cage?
The cage is a fully enclosed playing area measuring 12m × 20m × 3m (width × length × height).
It’s designed to:
Keep the ball in play.
Minimize stoppages.
Maintain fast, continuous action.
Who can play?
Players must be 16 years or older
Open to locals, travelers, and international teams
Mixed-gender teams are welcome
How many players can there be on a team?
4 players on the field
1 substitute is allowed and should be listed during registration
How much does it cost to enter?
General admission is free, but registration is required to attend
Team registration is also free but registration is required to participate in the tournament.
Spots are limited to 24 teams and registration will close once all spots are filled.
What is the prize?
The winning team receives $1,000 USD cash.
Do all players need passports?
Yes. All winning players must have valid passports and be eligible to travel at the time flights are booked.
Do players need to sign a waiver?
Yes.
A waiver is acknowledged during registration
Each player must sign an individual waiver before participating (on-site or digitally at check-in)
Will the event be filmed or photographed?
Yes.
Photos and videos will be captured during the event and may be used for BGH content and promotion
By attending, players and spectators acknowledge they may appear in event media.
